Stuffed Dates

Origin: Roman      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

About 6 dates per person
an equal number of shelled almonds
hazelnuts (1 per date)
3 tbsp honey
salt and pepper to taste


Method:

Slice the dates along one side and remove the stone. Replace this with one almond and one hazelnut and a twist of pepper. Close the dates up then roll in salt.

Once all the dates are ready heat the honey in a pan. Place the dates in this and fry them briskly. Pour out onto a plate and serve immediately.

As a guide 1 US cup of flour = 4 1/2 oz = 140g (this applies to breadcrumbs, ground almonds etc
1 US cup of butter/margarine or sugar = 7 oz = 200g
