Welcome to the Celtnet Pizza Recipes Home Page

Welcome to Celtnet's Pizza Recipes Page — This is a continuation of an entire series of pages that will, I hope, allow my visitors to better navigate this site. As well as displaying recipes by name, country and region of origin I am now planning a whole series of pages where recipes can be located by meal type and main ingredient. This page gives a listing of all the pizza recipes added to this site. It probably won't surprise you to learn that pizzas originate in Italy. But it might surprise you to learn that pizzas go back to Roman times and images of flat-breads with toppings are seen in murals from Pompeii. Indeed, I have attempted to re-create a Roman Pompeiian Pizza here. This seeks to re-create precisely what's depicted on the walls at Pompeii using only ingredients and techniques that were known to the Romans. Modern pizzas are typically bread-based, but other bases can also be used. A classic pizza incorporated the colours of the Italian flag in it's construction. A red tomato-based sauce on the bottom, white mozzarella cheese on top of that and then a scattering of green basil over everything. Of course, just as there are a whole range of bases available these days you also get many toppings and styles and I have sought to bring as many as possible together here. You will find pizza variants from everywhere that pizzas are mand these days (and that's pretty-much world-wide). Enjoy...
