White Soda Bread RecipeOrigin: Irish Period: Traditional |
Ingredients:
500g soda bread flour
White Soda Bread Preparation:Method:Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a large bowl, add sugar and mix well. Pour in 400ml of the buttermilk, mixing lightly with a wooden spoon until the dough is springy, adding more buttermilk if you need it. Grease a 20 x 10cm loaf tin and spoon the dough into the tin. Sprinkle a little flour over the top and bake in an oven pre-heated to 180°C for half an hour. Turn the heat down to 150°C and bake for another half hour until the loaf is nice and crusty on top. Take the loaf out of the oven and leave in the tin for 5 minutes. Turn out of tin and cool on a wire rack. |
