Tsebhi Sega
(Spicy Minced Meat) Recipe

Origin: Eritrea      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 tbsp vegetable oil
50g Berbere spice
50g Tegelese Tesmi (Herbed butter)
1 tsp chopped ginger
1 tsp chopped garlic
6 large tomatoes, blanched and peeled
1 kg beef or lamb, cut into strips and shredded
salt and black pepper, to taste

(Spicy Minced Meat) Preparation:


Method:

Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the onions until lightly golden then add the berbere spice and the Tegelese Tesmi and a little water. Allow to simmer on a low flame for about 8 minutes. Add the ginger, garlic and tomatoes then season and cook for a further five minutes. Now add the meat and simmer until done (about 40 minutes), adding a little more water as necessary.

Serve with Injeera.
