Tartare Sauce Recipe

Origin: Britain      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

150ml mayonnaise (or British mayonnaise) 1 tsp freshly-chopped tarragon and/or chives 2 tsp capers, chopped 2 tsp gherkins, chopped 2 tsp celery, chopped 1 tbsp lemon juice or tarragon vinegar

Tartare Sauce Preparation:


Method:

Combine all the ingredients thoroughly then set the sauce aside to infuse and for the flavours to mellow for at least 1 hour before serving. Use as an accompaniment to fish. This is the traditional condiment for breaded and/or battered cod and plaice.
