This is an easy to make spicy garlic bread that goes wonderfully well with home-made soups. Ingredients:
225g self-raising flour
Spicy Bread Preparation:Method:Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl and add the baking powder, curry powder, cayenne pepper, and poppy seeds. Mix well. Meanwhile add the garlic and salt to a pestle and mortar and grind to a smooth paste. Add the butter to this and continue grinding until smooth. Transfer this mixture to the mixing bowl and rub into the flour with your fingers until everything is well-mixed. Add the milk and the beaten egg, and mix to a soft dough. Turn this out onto a lightly-floured surface and knead lightly for a few minutes. Shape the dough into the ball and transfer to the centre of a greased baking tray. Flatten into a round, and if desired sprinkle the top with sesame seeds before marking the top of the dough with a cross, using a sharp knife. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C for 45 minutes. Check the bread, and if it seems to be browning too much cover with a sheet of baking foil for the remainder of the cooking time. When done, transfer the bread to a wire rack and leave to cool. Serve in chunks or slices |
