Ofobo Nmong Efere
(Yam Pepperpot) Recipe

Origin: Nigeria      Period: Traditional

This is a traditional stew that's typically served to nursing mothers, though it can als obe served as a ceremonial dish on festive occasions.

Ingredients

1 medium tuber of yam
1l stock or water
250g ground crayfish (or prawns)
50g ground chillies
1 large smoked dried fish (washed)
1 bunch ntong leaves (mint) washed & shredded
salt to taste

(Yam Pepperpot) Preparation:


Method:

Peel and wash the yam then cut into medium chunks and place in a clean pot. Add the stock or water and the remainder of the ingredients. Season with salt, cover and cook for 20 minutes or until the yam is soft. When ready, remove the yam from the stock and place in a separate dish. Serve the fish and stock as an accompaniment to the yam.

As a variant you can substitute the fish with cooked kid goat.
