Nuernberger Christkindlesmarkt-Glüehwein
(Nurenberg Christmas Mulled Wine) Recipe

Ingredients

This is the traditional mulled wine of the Nurenberg region that is typically served at Christmas fairs. It differs from ordinary glüehwein in that blueberry wine is used.

60 g sugar
1/2 cinnamon stick
4 cloves
freshly-pared peel of ½ lemon
115ml water
1l blueberry wine
juice of 1 lemon

Method:

Combine the cinnamon, cloves and lemon peel in a muslin bag and tie securely. Add to a pan along with the water and sugar then bring to a boil. Take off the heat and set aside to infuse for 20 minutes. At te end of this time remove the flavourings then add the blueberry wine and return to the heat.

Bring the mixture up to the boil, but do not allow the mixture to actally boil (the most important thing about making glüehwein is that the wine must never boil). Add lemon juice to taste and serve in heat-proof glasses.
