Irish Soda Farls RecipeOrigin: Irish Period: Traditional |
|
The word 'farl' derives from the Gaelic fardel which literally means 'four part' and this refers to the way that these griddle breads are typically cut into and served in quarters. Ingredients:
250g plain flour
Irish Soda Farls Preparation:Method:Sift the flour, salt and baking soda into a bowl. Form a well in the centre and add the buttermilk. Quickly mix the dough then turn onto a floured surface and knead lightly before forming into a flattened circle just over 1cm thick. Cut into quarters with a floured knife and transfer these sodabread quarters into a non-stick pan on relatively low heat. Cook the farls for about 6 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Serve hot. |
