Gorraasa Recipe

Origin: Sudan      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

500g wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
500ml water
1 tsp salt

Gorraasa Preparation:


Method:

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl then stir-in the water until a thick batter forms. Pour a ladle of this batter onto a non-stick frying pan and smooth out until evenly spread. Fry on medium heat and turn over when golden brown on one side. Fry until golden on the other side then transfer to an oven to keep warm.

Keep frying until all the garrassas are done. This goes wonderfully well with Dama be Potaatas.

As a guide 1 US cup of flour = 4 1/2 oz = 140g (this applies to breadcrumbs, ground almonds etc
1 US cup of butter/margarine or sugar = 7 oz = 200g
