Ginger Tea for Colds RecipeOrigin: Britain Period: Traditional |

We all know that cold remedies are expensive and they don't do much, apart from soothe the symptoms. Based on knowledge of the medicinal properties of herbs and spices here is my own cold remedy tea. Since I introduced my wife to this she swears by it. Ingredients:
1 3cm length of ginger, chopped
Ginger Tea for Colds Preparation:Method:Combine all the ingredients (except the honey, rose hip syrup and lemon juice) in a bowl, pour just over 1 mug of boiling water over the top. Cover and allow to infuse for 5 minutes. Strain into a mug, stir-in the honey, rose hip syrup and lemon juice then drink. The ginger is both antiseptic and has mild expectorant properties (helps get rid of mucous). The black peppercorns have decongestant properties (they help thin mucous and clear the nose) the sage is calming for the stomach and willow contains salicylic acid, the chemical that gives aspirin its medical effects so it reduces fevers and soothes headaches. Rose hip syrup is simply packed vitamin C (much more than in oranges, in fact). The lemon juice also provides vitain C, but for me makes the drink more palatable. Honey both sweetens the drink and helps soothe sore throats. |
