East-Frisian Roast Beef Strips Recipe

Origin: Germany      Period: Traditional

Ingredients

500g roast beef, sliced into strips
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp butter
50g blanched almonds, chopped
50g raisins
balsamic vinegar
soy sauce
single cream
salt, freshly-ground black pepper and sugar, to taste


East-Frisian Roast Beef Strips Preparation:


Method:

Place the meat in a bowl, season with salt and black pepper then sprinkle a little soy sauce and balsamic vinegar over the top (about 2 tbsp each). Mix to combine then cover and set aside to marinate for 2 hours.

Combine the oil and butter in a pan and when hot use to brown the meat for about 3 minutes before adding the almonds. As soon as the almonds begin to turn a light golden brown add any remaining marinade, 100ml water and the raisins. Bring to a simmer and cook, covered, for about 30 minutes or until cooked through and the sauce has reduced.

Adjust the seasonings, take off the heat and stir-in a little cream to thicken the sauce. Serve with potatoes and vegetables.
