Dried apples are a versatile snack and can be added to all manner of recipes, such as cakes, pancakes, stews, muesli and breakfast dishes. What most people don't realize is that it's very easy to make dried apples at home and this recipe tells you how. Ingredients:
4 medium-sized tart cooking apples, cored (you can also peel if you like)
Dried Apples Preparation:Method:Combine the water and lemon juice in a large bowl. Slice the prepared apples into rings about 6mm thick then immediately place in the bowl with the water and lemon juice (this will prevent the apples from turning brown). Ensure each apple is thoroughly coated with the lemon juice mix then set aside to stand for 5 minutes. After this time, drain thoroughly then pat each apple ring dry with paper towels. Lightly oil two wire racks then arrange the apple rings in a single layer (ensure they are not touching) over the top. Set each rack on a baking tray then transfer to an oven pre-heated to 150&x00B0;C and bake for 15 minutes. Now revers the position of the racks (move the one that was uppermost down and vice-versa). Bake for a further 15 minutes then turn off the oven and allow the apple rings to sit in the oven, with the door closed, for 3 hours more. Take out of the oven and allow to cool completely. To store place in a tight-lidded jar or in a heavy-duty plastic bag and seal. |
