Beef and Chilli Pizza Recipe

Origin: America      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

1 bread dough pizza base
450g minced beef
1/4 tsp salt
300ml Fresh Tomato Salsa
200g Monterey Jack cheese, grated
120g tin diced green chillies (or Jalapeñ0 chillies, diced)
2 medium plum tomatoes, de-seeded and coarsely chopped
80g thinly-sliced red onion
2 tbsp fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped, for garnish
salt and black pepper, to taste

Beef and Chilli Pizza Preparation:


Method:

Turn the pizza dough onto a lightly-floured surface and either roll or pull until it's about 25cm in diameter. Transfer the dough to a lightly-greased baking sheet then using your finger and thumb turn up the edges of the dough to form a lip then cover the dough with a kitchen towel and set aside in a warm place to raise for 10 minutes.

Add a little oil to a frying pan and use to fry the beef over medium heat for about 9 minutes, or until nicely browned all over. Pour away any pan juices then season the meat and set aside. Now spread the salsa over the pizza base, forming an even layer that extends almost to the edge. Sprinkle half the cheese over the salsa then top with the beef, chillies, tomatoes and red onion. Finish with the remaining cheese.

Place the pizza in an oven pre-heated to 200°C and bake for about 18 minutes, or until the edges of the base are golden and crisp. Cut into wedges and serve.
