Amish Poppyseed Bread RecipeOrigin: Amish Period: Traditional |
Ingredients:
540g flour
Amish Poppyseed Bread Preparation:Method:Sift the flour and salt together into a bowl. Add the salt, baking powder, eggs, oil, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, almond extract, poppy seeds and butter and mix to form an even batter. Tip the batter into two greased and floured bread pans then place in an oven pre-heated to 170°C and bake for 1 hour (or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean). Meanwhile make a glaze by adding all the remaining ingredients to a saucepan and heat gently until the sugar dissolves. As soon as the cake comes out of the oven prick them all over with a skewer and pour the glaze over the top. Allow to cool in the tins until they can be handled then tip out and allow to cool completely on a wire rack before serving. |
