Amish Funnel Cakes Recipe

Origin: Amish      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

3 eggs, beaten
500ml milk
40g sugar
700g flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Amish Funnel Cakes Preparation:


Method:

Combine the beaten eggs, milk and sugar in a bowl. Meanwhile sift the dry ingredients into another bowl. Slowly add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, beating until smooth.

Heat oil in a wok or deep fat fryer until it reaches 180°C. Meanwhile tip the batter into a household funnel (cover the spout with your thumb). If you don't have a funnel then cut a plastic bottle and pour the oil in there. Allow a little of the batter to stream into the oil. Cook until golden brown then remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper.

You can make swirl and shapes as the batter drips into the oil. Be adventurous and creative! Dust the funnel cakes with icing sugar and serve hot.
