American Hot Chilli Beef Deep Pan Pizza Recipe

Origin: America      Period: Traditional

Ingredients:

1 deep pan dough base
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 yellow bell pepper, chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
175g lean minced beef
1/4 tsp hot chilli powder
1/4 tsp ground cumin
200g tinned red kidney beans, drained
1 batch Tomato Sauce for Pizza
30g jalapeño chillies, sliced
60g Mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
60g mature Cheddar cheese, grated
olive oil for drizzling
salt and black pepper, to taste
chopped parsley, to garnish

American Hot Chilli Beef Deep Pan Pizza Preparation:


Method:

Turn the pizza dough out onto a floured work surface and either pull or roll out the dough into a 23cm circle. Place on a large greased baking tray or a pizza pan then use your fingers to roll the edges slightly so they're higher than the base. Cover with a clean tea towel and set aside in a warm place to rise for about 15 minutes.

In the meantime, gently fry the onion, garlic and yellow bell pepper gently in the olive oil for about 5 minutes until soft but not browned. Increase the heat very slightly then add the beef, chilli powder and cumin. Fry for 5 minutes more, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and stir-in the kidney beans before seasoning and setting aside.

Spread the tomato sauce over the top of the pizza then top with the meat mixture. Top with the sliced chillies and Mozzarella before scattering the grated Cheddar over everything. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top then season well.

Place in an oven pre-heated to 200°C and bake for about 18 minutes, or until the crust is risen and golden. Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the top and serve immediately.
