African Chow Mein Recipe

Origin: African Fusion      Period: Modern

Ingredients:

450g minced beef
180g chopped onion
390g chopped celery
40g wild rice
80g white rice
2 hot chillies pounded to a paste
400ml mushroom soup
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 can water chestnuts, halved
400m chicken and rice soup
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
salt and black pepper to taste
slivered almonds to top

African Chow Mein Preparation:


Method:

Brown the beef, onion, celery and chillies in the base of a large casserole dish. Once sufficiently browned add 300ml water and the rice and bring to the boil. Now add all the remaining ingredients and place in an oven pre-heated to 170°C and bake for 1½ hours. When ready, spoon into soup bowls and top with slivered almonds.
