Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Celtnet Reicpes 'frequently Asked Questions' (FAQ) web page.

Can I get all these recipes in one place?

There are almost 2000 recipes (and growing daily) on this site, far too many to put in a single eBook. However, you can get and ebook of the various spice-related recipes in an eBook on this site and I'm working on a an eBook of the herb-related recipes and all the African recipes from this site.

Are the eBooks available as a single downloadable file?

The spice recipes eBook is currently available as a thank-you for anyone donating to my Help Stefan Charity campaign and who sign up via PayPal (it's only $7 and you get to download the eBook immediately):

What's in the Celtnet The Guide to Spices and their Uses eBook?

Over 300+ pages describing 57 spices in detail (with pictorial guides) and example recipes for each spice (there are over 200 recipes in all). In addition there's a section teaching you how to create restaurant-quality curries at home.

What's in the Celtnet The Guide to Herbs and their Uses eBook?

This eBook is currently under development but will contain information on 60+ herbs (with pictorial guides), including example recipes for each herb (at least 250 recipes in all).

What's in the Celtnet African recipes eBook?

This eBook is currently under development but will contain over 400+ recipes covering all regions of Africa.

PDF File?

PDF stands for Portable Document Format, a standard produced by the Adobe company. Once you have the PDF file you can use the Adobe Reader to view it at any time (without being on-line). You can also print all, or part, of it, and search it by keyword.

To view and print PDF files you must have the free Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. To test whether your computer has the Adobe Reader, try to view this sample of Celtnet Recipes PDF file (if you have the Adobe Reader installed on your computer, clicking the link should cause it to open and display the free sample PDF file).

If the reader is not available on your system, simply visit the Adobe website to download the Acrobat Reader.

NOTE: The Celtnet eBooks are produced using Adobe Acrobat 5.0. They can be opened with the Adobe Reader 5.0 (or higher). Earlier versions of the Reader probably will not be able to open it. The current version of the Adobe Reader can be obtained — for free — at the link above.

Downloadable?

There are two ways to download the file to your computer's hard-drive: in a ZIP file, and in PDF form.

The ZIP file is a "zipped" or "compressed" version of the PDF file which can be "unzipped" to produce the PDF file. It is smaller in size and quicker to download. To "unzip" the ZIP file you must have unzipping software (such as PKZip or WinZip; check the websites for free trial versions of the software).

To download either format for the Guide to Spices and their Uses eBook, simply click on the eBay button below:

What Can I do with the eBooks?

Once you download The Celtnet Recipes PDF file (via the the PayPal links above) you may keep it in your computer's memory, you may make copies for backup purposes, and, of course, you may read it and make printouts for your own personal use. You may also make printouts of individual recipes to give to colleagues, friends, or students. The Celtnet Recipes PDF file is protected by copyright. You may not make printouts to sell. You may not distribute the electronic file in any form, freely or for payment, via any e-mail system, any computer network, any file-sharing system, by making copies on computer disk, or in any other way.

All the recipes are available on The 'Celtnet Recipes' website for free, so why should I pay for the PDF files?

There are some new recipes in the eBooks that are not on the website, but those are in the minority. However, it takes time and money to maintain this website and make it available to the public. Thousands of people visit The Celtnet Recipes website each month. Judging from our e-mail, many of them are students and teachers. You can help us continue to make all The Celtnet Recipes recipes available on the World Wide Web. Other publishers display only a sample of their recipe collection on their websites and make you buy the book to get the complete collection. We have decided to put all of our recipes on our website, but we need your help to continue to do so.

If you would like to have all (or a lot) of the recipes, you could print them right from the website, or copy and paste the recipe text into your word processor. There are over 2000 recipes, so it may take you a while. And there is an ad or two on every webpage.

It is far easier to download the various eBooks from this site than to trawl the site and the eBooks are specific to a particular area of cooking. There is alos no advertising in the eBooks.

Remember that the Celtnet Recipes site takes a great deal of time to write, edit, and maintain. If it is of use to you, please show your appreciation. Remember, I am not trying to make money for me here, all the money goes to the Help Stefan Campaign.

Also . . . Please tell your friends about our website. If you have your own website, please include a link to The Celtnet Recipes site. If you know of a website about Africa, African Recipes, the Roman, Mediaeval or Elizabethan period or just Recipes in General please let its webmasters know about The Celtnet Recipes site. And if you know any recipes that might be of interest, please consider sending them in. You will, of course be acknowleged. I can be reached on the recipes contact page. Thank you.

Why does The Celtnet Recipes website have advertising?

The World Wide Web only seems free. It takes time and money to present The Celtnet Recipes site recipes and information on the internet. Some of the money needed comes in the form of donations, as described above. We also raise money by accepting advertising. Think about this: if you went to your local bookstore, it would be difficult to find a newspaper or magazine without advertising. You pay for newspapers and magazines, yet they still have ads. The Celtnet Recipes website comes at no cost to you, is it so strange that it should be partially supported by advertising? And just remember that any money made isn't going to me it's going to a fund that I've set up to Help Stefan.

Can I link to Celtnet Recipes from my website?

The answer is very much a 'Yes Please'. Simply copy and paste the text below into your web page to create a link:

It is even better if you can link to and support the 'Help Stefan Campaign:
