Welcome to Celtnet's Crockpot/Slow Cooker Recipes Page — This is the first an entire series of pages that will, I hope, allow my visitors to better navigate this site. The crockpot or slow cooker has established itself as a very convenient way of slow cooking stews and meat. In essence it's a metal shell with a heating element in which a metal or ceramic insert is placed. This heats up and cooks the food by honvection. A tight-fitting lid is placed on the top and this lets very little steam escape. As the temperature can be set very low it's possible to cook the meal very slowly over a long period of time without it's drying out. As a result you can start a meal before going to work, leave it cooking all day and it's ready to eat when you get home. This slow cooking is also an excellent way of tenderizing tough meat. Just about any stew can be cooked in a crockpot and all the stewing recipes on this site can be adapted for this cooking method. In this selection of recipes, however, you will find ways to make desserts, sauces, cakes, pasta dishes and jams/jellies with your crockpot, to show you just how versatile this particular cooking method can be.
