Applying for a Credit Card
These days applying for a credit card seems easier then ever. It is possible to apply on-line, over the phone or even by mail.
On-line Applications
This is probably the most convenient and quickest way to apply for a credit card. Obviously you will have done your research and found the right card for you. When this step is done simply navigate to the credit card provider's website, find the card type you have chosen and click on the 'Apply' button.
This will generally lead you to a form where you will have to enter your personal details as well as information about emploment, your banking details and details about any other credit cards you may hold. Once all these fields are completed, click on the 'Submit' button and your application is on its way. One advantage of applying on-line is that a number of checks are made to your application as you type so that a number of the commonest mistakes in filling the form are captured automatically.
Once the application is submitted the approval time can vary. Some card companies offer an instant approval process whereas others can take a week or tow to get back to you. In addition, the rate at which an application is approved will depend on your credit history. The more spotless this is, the quicker your approval will be. However, once you have been approved, they will notify you by e-mail, mail, or phone. This may not be the end of the process however, as some companies require a signature on a credit agreement before they will physically issue you with a card.
The truth is that applying on-line is both secure and one of the quickest ways of attaining a credit card as almost all transactions can be done electronically.
Applying by Mail
This remains a very popular means of applying for a credit card as so many credit card application forms come through the mail. It can even be a fairly convenient means of applying as, if you have several forms to chose from you have the hard-copies in front of you to directly compare one against the other.
Again, once you've chosen your card all you need to do is to fill-out the application form (the details you need to supply will be the same as for the electronic form), date and sign then post in the envelope provided. However, because of the need to communicate by mail this means of applicatoin can be a little slower than applying over the interned just because of the inherent delays of the postal system.
Applying by Telephone
It is also possible to apply for most credit cards over the phone. Simply call the number on the application form and provide your details to the operator. However, because of the need to provide personal details to another person this is becoming a more and more unpopular means of applying.
Applying Directly
You may decide to take a credit card from your own bank. If this is the case then you can simply walk into the bank and complete the application process there. This may be the quickest method of gaining a credit card as the bank can easily check your credit history and knows your financial status.
Obviously, all the methods outlined above will work. Just be careful when applying for a card to chose the right one for you. Also, don't apply for too many cards at one and the same time as each application will show-up on your credit report and too many hits will adversely affect your credit rating.
