Motorola Razr V3 Disassembly: Part 2

Introduction

In the first part of this series you learnt about the tools you need and the easy part of disassembling you Mororola RAZR V3. We now move to the tru nitty-gritty of getting the fascias off the phone.

Removing the Fascias

Motorola V3, battery and SIM removed

With the battery and SIM cards removed you can now begin the disassembly proper. The first thing to do is to remove the two T6 screws indicated by red circles in the image above using a T6 screwdriver.

prise-off bottom casing

With the two screws removed it's now possible to begin prising-off the bottom casing using your plastic tool, as above. You will need to use more force than you imagine to do this as the two tangs in the image below are holding the two pieces of the casing together.

Removing the battery case

It's easiest to concentrate on the right-hand side of the casing as the left hand side has a cable that holds the two parts together (below). To pop the tangs off use your plastic tool and work it all the way around the right hand side of the casing. You will have to use more strenght than you wish to do this, but you wil eventually get it done!

Ease V3 case open
Lay V3 case out
Remove contact
Separate phone parts

Once you have popped the first side of the case open use your hand to ease the case open and lay it down on the table. Next use your flat-head screwdriver to prise up the contact so that you can now separate the two parts of the phone, as above.

Remove the base

Next you can now remove the base by using a Torx T6 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding it in place, as aobove. This releases the components below:

To free the fascia of the component you've just removed from the phone you will need to first remove the aerial assembly (this is the big plastic piece with the copper wires attached. First use your pin to remove the rubber covers from the middle of the aerial assembly, as above. This reveals two tangs which you will have to free. This requires a little jiggery-pokery as you will need to release the tanks whilst at the same time prising-up the assembly (if you don't do this then the tangs will simply spring back). Finally you should be able to use the flat-head screwdriver to remove this component. With the aerial assembly removed the circuit board simply lifts away, revealing the bare housing.

The base of the phone has now been uncovered. To learn how to remove the keyboard and the screen fascias see the next part of this course.
