Adwords Misspelled Items Generator

It's surprising how many searches are misspelled every day. Partly this is due to typing errors 'typos'. Partly this is due to common mistakes made in English. We all do it, especially when we're typing quickly. And it's surprising how consistent some of these errors can be. As a result if people are searching for something on the internet then a proportion of these searches will be misspelled. Sometimes this proportion can be very high.

I once created a website for a friend — a website based on 'Lord of the Rings' miniatures. Curious as I am, I wrote some software to track how people found the website and what they used on the website to find the items they were interested in. We all know that the author of 'The Lord of the Rings' is JRR Tolkein but what surprised me was the number of times people typed Tolkien rather than Tolkein (because of the 'i before e except after c' rule in English). Indeed the ratio of incorrect to correct spelling was about 6:4. So I wrote a little application to automagically change the incorrect spelling to the correct one so that people could find what they want.

This was a salutory lesson that I took away with me. The lesson was to 'always look out for the misspelling'. The same adage is true of and for creating AdWords campaigns. Make certain that you take into account all the possible (and likely) misspellings of your keywords.

The tool given below is a modification of my Create Misspelled Keywords page which takes keywords (they can be up to three words long) and creates an exhaustive list of all the possible misspellings from them. The tool also adds the phrase match double quotes and the exact match square brackets around them. All you need to do is to type in your keyword(s) and the code will create the misspellings. You can then copy the output to your own applications. Please note that the longer your phrase is the more alternate keywords you will get. It's probably easier to type in your keywords of interest (four characters or more) one at a time and then to weed out the unlikely misspellings before performing the combinations yourself. But if you want an exhaustive list, this tool will give it to you with no intervention on your part!
