Welcome to Celtnet 'One Million People' Campaign — Here you will learn more about this campaign, the people it seeks to help and what
you can do. This, unashamedly, is a drive to get money to aid the Liberian refugees displaced by civil war to Dakar, Senegal. It's my aim to give as many of the refugee children an education as possible. But for that, I need your help, your donations. I'm going to ask you for 1 of 3 things from you:

Admittedly, this grew out of a personal desire to help one person, as detailed in my
Help Stefan Campaign page. Stefan still needs help, but as I have married her, that is now my problem. Admittedly, her father remains despearately ill and I need to raise $2000 in the next month for him to have any hope of attaining treatment for his heart condition. But I hope to do that from the other income streams on this website...
As my relationship with Stefan has matured and I visited Dakar several times I came to know her friends and fellow parishioners in the Liberian community. They are desperately poor and living hand-to-mouth on the sufferance of the Senegalese government. They are refugees and have very few rights. They are also English-speaking people in a French-speaking country and most are women and Christians in a Moslem and male-dominated society. I have talke to so many of them and what disturbs them most is that the UN-funded school set-up for them in Dakar had closed, denying their children the opportunity of an education (like healthcare and everything else education has to be paid for in Senegal and these people have few ways of gaining money). They are stuck, unable to gain enough money to travel home and unable to gain a decent income in Senegal because of their refugee status.
This is when I decided that the best thing I could do for them was to help their children gain an education. Whether that's by directly sponsoring childrent to go to school (it costs about $1500 per child per year), or, even better, by providing a school for them to gain an educaton, thus replacing the UN school with something new.
It's as a result of this that I came-up with my '100000 People Campaign'. If I can get just 0.50c from enough people then together we can provide these people with a school and a future.
Why am I doing this? Well, I
really want to help the Liberian refugees of Dakar. I want to make certain their children have a future through education. I also want to show the
true power of the internet.
Why am I asking for only $1 or 50c? Well, I want everyone who comes to this site to want to and to be able to donate. But surely it won't make a difference? I hear you ask. Well... This site gets a minimum o 4000 visitors each and every day. Most people will ignore this appeal, but if only 1 in 10 donate 50c that's $200 a day, $1400 a week. That's enough to give one child an education for a whole year. If enough people doante over a year (And that's why I chose 1 000 000), together we can build an English-language school in Dakar and provide teachers and materials for all the children o the Liberian refugees there.
This is the
real power of the internet. Each individual only gives a little, but collectively the amount is huge.
What's in if for me? Yes, I can hear you asking that. Well, if you want you get our name here in lights. And that's another reason for calling this 1,000,000 people. I want to personally thank anyone and everyone who takes the time and effort to help. If you donate then you will get your name listed here. I have set-up a database and you can add a little biography of yourself there. This will be linked from your name on this page. If you have a website then you can add a link to that website and it's completely free. Even if you just link to this page from your site you will still get your name here.
Yes, a 50c or $1 donation to this cause is all you need to get your website permanently linked from this page. It's my 'thank you' for your donation and time. Now, I can't say any fairer than that, can I?
