Subremis
A Gaulish God: The Good Bellower/The Good Roarer
Subremis is a Gaulish god known from a single inscription found at Neuvy-sur-Baranjon. Indications are that he was a hunter deity (patron of stags) or a warrior deity of the berserker type. |

Subremis is a god known from a single inscription found at Neuvy-sur-Baranjon in the Cher region of France. Unfortunately almost nothing is known of this god; the only surviving element of his cult being his name.
Subremis' name can be provisionally interpreted as being formed from the reconstructed proto-Celtic lexical elements *su- (good/very) and *brem-e/o- (to bellow or roar; which is the root of the Cymric word brefu). Thus Subremis is 'The Good Bellower' or 'The Good Roarer' which raises the possibility that Subremis could either be a hunter deity associated with stags or he could be a warrior deity of the berserker type.
