Gaul: The All-capable

Medros is a deity known from a representation found at Haguenau, Germany (CIL XIII 06017) where this deity is named and depicted as a man leaning on a bull. The deity's name may well be related to the Cymric word medr (strength, ability) and might suggest that this deity is the 'All-capable'. The link with the bull is interesting, suggesting that this deity may represents one of the 'higher echelons' of the Celtic pantheon in that the bull was representative of the Celtic 'High King'. Thus Medros may have been a deity of the 'father of the tribe' type.
