A Cymric Hero: Heavy Battle-hand of the Borders of Eiddyn

Cym: Heavy Battle-hand of the Borders of Eiddyn

The character of Llawgad is known from only a single poem (Triad 33) of the Trioedd Ynys Prydein where he is described as having committed one of the 'Three Unfortunate Assassinations of the Island of Britain' for he slew Afaon son of Taliesin. This alone places him as one of the 'Men of the North' and the descriptive nature of his name tells us that he hailed from the borders of Eiddin (the region around Edinburgh).
