Livicus
A Gaulish God: The Host
Livicus is a Gaulish god known from a single inscription found at Bonn, Germany where he is associated with Roman Apollo. Interpretation of his name would indicate that he is a deity of the 'Provider of the Feast' type. |

Livicus is a god knwn from an inscription found at Bonn in Germany (CIL XIII 08006) where he is equated by interpretato Romana with the Roman god, Apollo.
Etymologically Livicus' name is difficult to interpret and many have suggested that it is derived from one of the Celtic roots for 'light', which would fit-in with the radiant nature of 'Apollo'. However, I find it more likely that the name is derived from the reconstructed proto-Celtic root more like *līweto- (host) which would fit in with Apollo's role as 'the provider of the feast'.
