In the Mabinogi of Branwen ferch Llŷr Heilyn fab Gwyn Hen is one of the seven men who escape the conflict in Ireland. With his fellows he accompanies the severed head of Bendigaidd Frân on its journey to the White Mount in London. Brân lays a dihenydd upon them; that they shall tarry in Harlech for seven years where they shall feast and be entertained by Rhiannon's birds. Then at Gwales in Penfro they would tarry for four-score years until the door facing towards Aber Henfelen and Cornwall was opened.

They diid as the head commanded and for seven years were they in Harlech before moving on to Gwales. And there the head of Bendigeidfran regaled them as well as if he were still alive. Until, one day, Heilyn fab Gwyn decided to open the door to see whether Brân's prophecy concerning it were true. He opened the door and gazed out towards Aber Henfelen and Cornwall. And when the companions had looked out they became aware once more of all the evils they had ever sustained and of all the friends and companions they had lost. And thus was the enchantment broken and they journeyed to London where the head of Brâ was interred in the White Mount (Tower Hill in London).
