Entarabus (Intarabus, Interabus) is a Gaulish god known from an inscription nad statue found at Noville-lez-Bastogne, Belgium and a large number of inscriptions found in Germany and Luxembourg. He is equated with Roman Mars and seems to be a genius locus, a protective deity of a specific place. |

Entarabus is known from an inscription and a statue found in 1862 at Noville-lez-Bastogne, Belgium (CIL XIII 03632 where he is equated with the Genius Ollodagus, he was a deity of the Treveri (an inscription to the same deity under the name of Intarabus also having been discovered here [AE 1965, 28bis]). The same deity, known as Interabus is known from an inscription found at Ernzen, Germany (AE 1978, 513). However, by far the greatest humber of dedications to this deity have been found in the name of Intarabus. In Germany inscriptions were found at Feyen, Niersbach (CIL XIII 04128) and Trier ([AE 1915, 72; CIL XIII 11313] and CIL XIII 03653 where he was equated with Mars). In Luxemburg inscriptions to Intarabus were found at Dalheim (AE 1992, 1248) and Echterenach (AE 1965, 199). Finally a single inscription has been found in Mackwiller, Bas-Rhin, France where Intarabus is equated by with the Gaulish deity Narius.
His name probably derives from the proto-Celtic components enter- (beetween) and ab- (river) giving: 'Between the Rivers'. It may be that Entarabus was a genius locus, a protector of a given locality, and this may explain why he was syncretized with Mars.
