Celtic Gods: The Gaulish goddesses, Comedovae (The Devourers)

Comedovae
The Gaulish Triple-goddess, also known as Comedova: The Devourers

Comedovae (Comedova) are Gaulish triple-goddesses known from Aix-les-Baines in France. They may be assocated with the healing springs and have this as one aspect, but the interpretation of their names also suggests a martial aspect to their cult.

Synonyms: Comedova
Gaul: the Devourers

A Gaulish triple mother goddes invoked at Aix-les-Bains, Savoy. France (CIL XII 2445) where they are invoked as Comedovis Augustis. Aix-les-Baines is famous for its thermal baths and the Matres Cenedovae were associated with these waters. By associaton with the springs one of their attributes may have been that of healing. However, the individual attributes of an individual Cemedova cannot even be guessed at.

The goddess' names may be related to Latin word comedō (devour) so, collectively the goddesses might be 'The Devourers'; which would not be incompatible with their posessing the warrior aspect of the tripple goddes in the same way as the Irish Macha.
