Alisanos is a local Gaulish deity who is mentioned in inscriptions from Couchey and Vié in the Côte d'Or, France. An inscription has also be found at Aix-en-Provence, France. Etymologically attempts have been made to link him with the rowan (or mountain-ash tree), from the Irish luis and it seems, based on reconstructed proto-Celtic that the name can be broken down into the components *a-lui-sān-os (he who is hidden [covered] by mountain-ash [rowan]) and as such may be the genius locus of rowan forests.
The ancient Gaulish city of Alesia (modern Alise-Sainte-Reine) may be associated with this deity.
