Is it really a week since I last wrote this introduction to this eZine? It seems like only yesterday! But another week has rolled by and I hope that it's been a productive week for you. Apart from my usual housekeping work, this past week I've been ramping-up my marketing and link-building (basically following my own advice from last week's issue of the eZine!). Some of this is to account for the usual necessary work on any website. Some of it is to make certain the website ticks-over nicely as I visit my wife and son in West Africa next month (so next week's issue of the Celtnet WebInfo eZine will be the last util the last Wednesday of July).

This week's issue of the eZine is still concentrating on monetizing your website with my $200 a month campaign. This week it's the turn of minisites and AdSense to get the eZine's full attention. In the meanwhile the comment section looks at how to diversify your income sources so that you are not overly-dependent on a single income source. Indeed, the secret to the $200 a month plan is to get multiple income streams each making you at least $200 per month. The more of these you have, the more money you will make overall and the better your financial situation will be. I hope you have a prosperous week.

$200 a Month with Google AdSense in Just 15 Pages

There are a number of advertising systems available today and some are listed here. However, Google's AdSense system has emerged as by far the largest of them all. AdSense serves what are called 'contextual ads'. That is, ads which fit in with the content of your site. Adding AdSense to your site is very easy, but making any real money out of AdSense is hard. over 80% of all website owners struggle to make $200 a month with their site's advertising.

This article is about how you can create a website that will make you $200 from advertising each and every month. The truth is that you don't need a huge site to do that. About 15 to 30 pages will do. You just need to know a few tips and tricks. Now I know that this doesn't sound like much... However, once you've created one website that will make you this amount of money you can go ahead and create another and another. Five such sites will give you $1000 a month... and so on.

Now, this article focuses on making money from advertising as, for most people, it's the easiest way to start. But the same techniques as described here will apply to just about any way of making money on the web.

Of course, the first thing you need is a website. Then you need a topic for that website and you need to write content that people will want both to read and to return to. A key element of this strategy is the 'return visitor' factor. Once you have some content you now need to get visitors to your site. To do this you need to get in-bound links. The easiest way of doing this is to submit your site to directories such as this one and include your links of relevance in the article.

Current SEO thinking suggests that to have a successful website you need to spend about 25% of your time adding new and relevant content to your site and about 75% of your time engaged in link-building and other activities that will get your site noticed and will increase your visitors.

Now you have a successful website with content, in-coming links and traffic, it's time to start making some money. The first thing to do is to apply to Google's AdSense program as a publisher. This lets you get the code that will put Google's Ads on your site. It used to be that you were only allowed to place Google's ad code on your site and that you could not use any other ad system. However, all that's changed so I suggest that you also sign-up for the Knotera ad network (they link five keywords in your text to pop-up ads) and to Pay-per-Play Advertising (they play 5 second audio ads on your system) so you have three different ways of monetizing your pages.

Once you have your ads, you place them on your pages then you will need to do some testing as to what's the best way to display the ads. You will need to change the colours and placements as well as the ad styles. For Google ads the best results are typically obtained when the ads are blended into the text.

This is a key part of making decent money, as most publishers seem to get only a 1% click-through rate on their sites. But with a little effort and quite a lot of testing it's possible to get an 8% (or even higher) click through rate.

None of this is easy. You need to keep building your site, keep building the links back to your site and you need to play around with your ads so that they are at their most effective. But all this really does work! Within a few months you will be making $200 from your site... Then it's on to the next site and the next one. And it becomes easier with each website that you build.

If you are truly serious about making more money from AdSense ads, then I highly recommend that you check out Joel Comm's Adsense Secrets 4.0. For only $9.95 this is the best and most comprehensive guide available to maximizing your AdSense profits. With this guide you will more than make-up the small outlay in an afternoon (I increased my AdSense earnings three-fold, for example!).

All this really does work, I do it all the time. But there are no shortcuts, not if you want to sustain your income. Your content must be good and original for you to maintain your placement in the search engines. You need to continue building your links so that you can maintain the presence of your website and continue to draw paying traffic that will click on your links. If you want to expand your site and your traffic then you need to add more pages and get links to those pages.

Making money from advertising on the internet isn't rocket science. But it will take a little effort on your part. But if you are willing to put in the time then you will reap the rewards.

What's Hot in ClickBank

With so much of my focus going on ClickBank and ClickBank associated pages over the past few (and the forthcoming months) I thought that I should add a weekly digest of What's Hot in ClickBank to you, my loyal readers. Each weekend I update the ClickBank feed for my Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace, which then drives the various Free ClickBank search and Ads Code systems I provide. I've also started to perform analyses of the current against the previous ClicBank datafeed releases. Each time ClickBank perform a new release they analyze their sales and other data for that time period and they re-evaluate product rankings on this basis. New products come in, old products fall out of the system and product rankings go up and go down. I will soon be making a full digest of these data available so you can check which products have moved, how the products you are promoting are doing, as well as keeping you informed of any product price changes...

What this isn't is a list of all the top products for the week. Indeed, the top products probably aren't the ones you should promote as there's a lot of competition out there. Rather, what I'm presenting is a digest of the 'hot' mid range products. The ones that are on the up. I also support these product statements with an analysis of what people are searching for on my system. And you have to remember that I annotate all he ClickBank products by hand so my Celtnet ClickBank Search System ClickBank search system is one of the most comprehensive out there, and certainly better that ClickBank's own serach system. It's also the same system that drives my Free ClickBank Search Code, allowing you to put comprehensive ClickBank searches on your site.

The ClickBank database driving this site was updated on Monday 23rd June 2008 with the inclusion of 147 new products into the ClickBank system. These have been uploaded and annotated into the Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace and are now searchable. All the products have had their images updated and the products in ClickBank's 'top 40' in all categories have had their descriptions and sales text to make them easier for you to sell!

It's obvious that summer has come and that the increasing gas prices are influencing people's dicisions in that weight loss products and how to get a ripped body seem high on everone's minds. The eBooks on how to convert your cars to 'burn water' are also flying off the shelves and a half dozen of these products are now in the top 25 of ClickBank and are also accounting for a good proportion of my sales (see below)

Of the various products promoted in ClickBank, the following have been my top sellers: Top Secret Fat Loss Secret; EZ Auction Cash Machine; Convert Your Car To Burn Water + Gasoline = Double Your Mileage! and Success with NLP - Master your Mind design your Destiny.

Diversification is the Key to Success

I've talked in previous issues of this eZine about making $200 per month by various efforts and then maintaining that process over the long-term. This issue describes a method for doing precisely that with AdSense...

Now, you could repeat the formula I've given over and over again and I guarantee that you will make money. But it does leave you with the 'all the eggs in one basket' problem. If Google changes its rules or decides that it doesn't like your site/sites for whatever reason then your earnings could well disappear.

That's why you need to diversify your efforts... Not only are you adding multiple independent income sources, but you're also insuring yourself against any one of the income sources going south...

Apart from serving ads on your site, here are some great income generation strategies:

Affiliate marketing via your website
Article marketing
Affiliate marketing via on-line classifieds
Product marketing via eMail lists
Selling your own infoproduct
Viral Marketing
Offering a service (design, SEO, PLR etc)
Selling advertising space/services directly
Product reviews and sales
Selling eBooks from your own store

Of course, this is a tiny list compared to what you could do... it's all about getting you thinking. You should also remember that with recent changes to Google's TOS you can now mix Google ads with ads from other networks. Most of my pages have Google Ads, In-text ads, Audio Ads and Amazon ads. I'm also starting to experiment with eBay ads...

They all offer something different and they all bring me steady revenue streams.

Applying the 80:20 rule

Last week I talked in this spot about the 75:25 rule (that you should spend 25% of your time creating content and 75% of your time promoting it by article marketing etc... This time it's the turn of the classic business 80:20 rule. In a nutshell the rule states that the first 20% of effort spent on anything will deliver 80% of the results. The remaining 80% of the time spent on a project only delivers a further 20% improvement.

Now we know that the googlebot looks at the quality of your pages and your load times etc... We also know that you need good, quality, content for your site and that your site needs to look fresh and up-to-date. So, because of all these factors you're necessarily going to want to spend a lot of time on your site. After all, it's what the 'experts' are telling you to do. And they're right...

However, with all these pressures pulling you in so many directions it's hard to know how to get enough time to do everything. This is where you need to work smart not hard. Remember the 80:20 rule. When you do anything for and with your website the first 20% of the time spent on it will deliver 80% of the results you need. Everything after that is a quest for perfection and your time is precious. More often than not 'jsut good enough' really will suffice.

It's a whole change in mentality, that I will admit... And it's all about NOT being a perfectionist.... It's all about critically evaluating your work and stopping when it's fit for purpose. You really don't need to go that extra mile to make everything completely perfect (and I know that's hard, we all, as an industry, tend to be perfectionists). But good enough is good enough and that will save you hours off effort for which you're getting little or no return. Time which can be far more effectvely (in terms of income at least) spent on your marketing efforts.
