Another week has gone by and once more I'm back to writing this eZine. Not that I'm complaining, believe me... This editorial is actually one of the few points in the week where I have an opportunity (no matter how small) to pause and take stock of things. It's been a week of writing for me: articles, bum marketing, ads, blog comments, forum posts and, as always ClickBank product descriptions and adding the latest ClickBank RSS feeds to my website pages. It's been a true whorlwind and the results really are starting to come in: a nicely-fattening ClickBank account.
I've discussed these methods in previous issues of this eZine and you can also read articles on these in the Celtnet Articles directory. The promotion and link building have really started to bring noticeable effects this week and the number of visitors to my recipes site haver increased by a third during the past two days. Though what this really means is that I need to increase my marketing efforts even further this week. But positive results are always good for the old motivation.
Talking of motivation. Easter is only a month away and this is the next event that you should currently be directing your marketing efforts towards. Personally I've gathered all my Easter-related recipes into one place and I'll start putting product links here soon and in the next week or so I'll convert these recipes into an eBook. But that's only what I've been doing. Remember, think creatively...

Making Real Money from Google AdSense

Making money from AdSense is difficult if all you do is slap-up a web page, put some AdSense ads on it and hope for the best. The same is true if your website is a labour of love, written around a topic that you have a passion for or are particularly interested in (unless you have thousands of pages and the estimate is that you need about 10 000 pages to make a decent living). This is why Recipe sites are popular and can earn a decent amount of money.
If you really want to begin making decent money from AdSense ads then you have to treat your website as a business. You have to approach it professionally and you have to do your homework. AdSense is keyword based. Google matches the ads they deliver to your site based on the content of the pages you put their ads on. If you haven't optimized your pages for keywords then you get whatever Google thinks is the best match for your site. Even if you've optimized your page for certain keywords it may be that those keywords don't pay very much in the AdSense system. As a result you may only get a few cents for any clicks on such ads.
To really make money from AdSense you need to chose a niche or market that's profitable and where you can get the maximum income from each click made on he ads delivered to your site. This means performing keyword research. You need to find keywords that earn a decent amount from each click. Look at it this way: if you chose a keyword that only makes 5 cents perclick you will need 22 times as many clicks to earn as much as from a keyword that earns $1.20 per click. As a result you need to be extremely careful when you do your keyword research. It's even more complicated because you need to bring traffic to your site. It's not much use creating a website on a very competitive keyword or a popular one as you're never going to be able to compete against the established players.
You're looking for the very difficult balance of finding keywords that have lots of traffic, but very little competition in their niche and which also pay very well. As I say, it's not easy — but it is possible. Even then to make any real money on AdSense you need a popular site that has thousands (preferrably 10 000+) of pages. This is where article directories, blogs that allow comments and forums are great as your site's visitors will begin to build your content for you. There's very definitely a 'tipping point' here where your reach a position where you are managing the site rather than creating the content for it. Once you reach this position you are beginning to make a real AdSense income every month. But it takes a while... Until that point you have to be creating content, content, content.
Whilst you are writing your content you also need to make sure that people find your website and you make it popular. The best way to do this is to submit articles to various article directories (such as this one). Each article you write will usually allow you to embed 2 or 3 urls (usually in the 'about the author' or 'resource' box. These should be links to your site.
As article directories are popular this usually means that you get several high-quality links back to your website with each article your write. I would aim for writing at least 2 articles each and every week. This means that by the end of a year you have at least 100 high-quality links pointing to your site. This makes your site more popular, gives you the cachet of being an expert in your field and increases your search engine rankings.

With so much of my focus going on ClickBank and ClickBank associated pages over the past few (and the forthcoming months) I thought that I should add a weekly digest of What's Hot in ClickBank to you, my loyal readers. Each time ClickBank perform a new release they analyze their sales and other data for that time period and they re-evaluate product rankings on this basis. New products come in, old products fall out of the system and product rankings go up and go down. I will soon be making a full digest of these data available so you can check which products have moved, how the products you are promoting are doing, as well as keeping you informed of any product price changes...
What this isn't is a list of all the top products for the week. Indeed, the top products probably aren't the ones you should promote as there's a lot of competition out there. Rather, what I'm presenting is a digest of the 'hot' mid range products. The ones that are on the up. I also support these product statements with an analysis of what people are searching for on my system. And you have to remember that I annotate all he ClickBank products by hand so my Celtnet ClickBank Search System ClickBank search system is one of the most comprehensive out there, and certainly better that ClickBank's own serach system. It's also the same system that drives my Free ClickBank Search Code, allowing you to put comprehensive ClickBank searches on your site.
The ClickBank database driving this site was updated on Monday 18th February 2008 with the inclusion of 256 new products into the ClickBank system. These have been uploaded and annotated into the Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace and are now searchable. All the products have had their images updated and the products in ClckBank's 'top 30' in all categories have had their descriptions and sales text to make them easier for you to sell!
Of the various searches performed on my site during the previous week, two really stand out. The first is for anything to do with 'recession' and the second for the terms 'eliminate debt' or clear debt so you can see that the economic downturn and the efect of Christmas bills are the two things foremost on people's mind. Interestingly, however, the products that are making most advances in terms of ClickBank rankings are all those to do with gardening (search for gardening greenhouse orchids. These seem to be the products to promote at the moment and if you can build a niche site around these terms then using these ad feeds for your site would be a real boon. Remember that it will soon be even easier for you to have these ads on your site as you can use an RSS feed along with your AdSense ads. I'll provide you with all the tools you need!

Affiliate marketing can be hard... Or, at the very least it can be a lot of effort. You have to write articles, cloak affiiate links, search for products to promote and keywords to promote them with.
If you're using pay-per-click advertising then you may be paying-out hundreds or even thousands each month on ad campaigns. Expanding your Portfolio...
Over the past year I have been growing my Celtnet site into an authority site, rather than the cluster of minisites that it started out as (for a discussion of the merits of Minisites versus Authority Sites read this article). As a result I've added a truly huge collection of recipes to my Celtnet Recipes section of this site. The original Celtic sections of the site are still growing and I have regions for Medicine, Mobile Phones and much more. There is a new forum at Celtnet Forums and a review section at Celtnet Reviews. Big recent additions include the CeltNet ClickBank Marketplace as well as the eBooks sales and advertising pages.
The site has grown remarkably during the past 12 months and I'm constantly adding new content and features. But the one thing that was missing was a proper article directory. Of course, I've been writing articles all over the site and using them in many ways. But I didn't have a central repository of articles anywhere. This was a big gap and a big missing piece from my site. A week ago I started on the Celtnet Articles directory and now it's ready to go primetime. Originally it was designed for me. But I've now ammended the code so that anyone can sign in and submit their articles. Articles can also be pubished and used by anyone for their blogs and eZines. This is a fully-featured article site that I am going to be promoting heavily over the coming months. My portfolio of products and solutions is nearing completion and now you can use my Celtnet Articles site to promote your website, product or even to add to your own 'Bum Marketing' campaign strategy. What's best is that the article site has an RSS feed that's automatically pinged to the feed aggregators every evening. As a result you get a lot of quick exposure to your submission.
