Four Steps to Writing a Top-selling Classified Ad

Unless you've been comatose, you can't have helped notice that helped notice that classified ads are everywhere on the web these days, with Craigslist and USFreeAds dominating the field. Indeed, Craigslists is ranked sixth in terms of traffic in the Alexia rankings.
Then you have the equivalent ads in eZines as well as on blogs and forums even Google's ads are basically classified ads in a slightly different guise. The reason they're so ubiquitous is really very, very, simple... they work!
Let's face it, classified advertising is one of the most cost-effective forms of advertising on the internet today. They also appear ridiculously simple: a title, some descriptive text and an URL. But, like most things that seem deceptively simple on the surface a considerable amount of work actually goes into writing a powerful and effective classified ad.
Writing a great ad is a hard process and when a professional writer works on a classified ad it's not unusual for them to work through 15 or even 20 drafts before they hit on the ideal ad copy.
Now let's examine what a classified ad is in more detail:
Typically, a classified ad is divided into:
The Headline
The body text
The Call to Acton
The headline is there to sell the ad
The text is there to set-up the call to action.
The call to action is there to sell the click
The Headline
The sole purpose of the headline is to grab attention, to draw people in to read your ad. Now, some people write sensational headlines with no relationship to the ad itself and though this may work in the short term all it ultimately does is to destroy your reputation and integrity. Indeed, the last thing you want is disappointment when someone finally arrives at your website.
Just remember that the real guide to human behaviour is selfishness. When they read your ad most people are going to be asking: what's in it for me?
The Body Text
This is where you sell your ad and tell the ad's readers what's in it for them. Here you need to push the benefit that the ad's reader will get from clicking on your ad.
The main step to writing the body is to list all the features of your product or service then, next to them, list the benefits of those features. You must write at least one benefit for each feature, or don't use that feature. People buy what your product or service will do for them, not only what it will do.
The Call to Action
This represent the action that you want your ad's reader to take. Often this is just a 'click here' action. Yet, this is the most important part of writing the whole ad.
How you approach this depends on whether you are sending your ad's readers to a web site, an autoresponder or some other way to get more information. If it's a website, be sure to include urgency in your approach... You must lure them away from what they are doing now in order for them to visit your site.
If you are using an autoresponder, tell the reader what to expect: will they get a single email, is it double opt-in, or will they get a multi-part series? The more they know, the more likely they will be to click through.
There is one final vital ingredient to creating your ad: don't forget to read your own copy! Classifieds aren't supposed to be a novel. Keep it short and to the point. Also check the spelling and punctuation!
As with any internet marketing you need to test, re-test and then test again... Find out what actually works and run with that. Testing allows you to spend just a little money now in the hope of making big money later.
Follow these rules and you can begin to craft classified ads that really work. And once you find an ad that truly works for you blast it anywhere and everywhere you can. Then you can sit back and begin raking-in the profits.

What's Hot in ClickBank
With so much of my focus going on ClickBank and ClickBank associated pages over the past few (and the forthcoming months) I thought that I should add a weekly digest of What's Hot in ClickBank to you, my loyal readers. Each weekend I update the ClickBank feed for my Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace, which then drives the various Free ClickBank search and Ads Code systems I provide. I've also started to perform analyses of the current against the previous ClicBank datafeed releases. Each time ClickBank perform a new release they analyze their sales and other data for that time period and they re-evaluate product rankings on this basis. New products come in, old products fall out of the system and product rankings go up and go down. I will soon be making a full digest of these data available so you can check which products have moved, how the products you are promoting are doing, as well as keeping you informed of any product price changes...
What this isn't is a list of all the top products for the week. Indeed, the top products probably aren't the ones you should promote as there's a lot of competition out there. Rather, what I'm presenting is a digest of the 'hot' mid range products. The ones that are on the up. I also support these product statements with an analysis of what people are searching for on my system. And you have to remember that I annotate all he ClickBank products by hand so my Celtnet ClickBank Search System ClickBank search system is one of the most comprehensive out there, and certainly better that ClickBank's own serach system. It's also the same system that drives my Free ClickBank Search Code, allowing you to put comprehensive ClickBank searches on your site.
The ClickBank database driving this site was updated on Tuesday 01st April 2008 with the inclusion of 134 new products into the ClickBank system. These have been uploaded and annotated into the Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace and are now searchable. All the products have had their images updated and the products in ClckBank's 'top 30' in all categories have had their descriptions and sales text to make them easier for you to sell!
There fall-out from ClickBank's recent alteration to their ranking algorithm now seems over and product movement in the top 30 rankings seem to have stabilized. This time, as a result, there's much less churn in my Cletnet ClickBank Marketplace Digest.
Of the various searches performed on my site during the previous week, two really stand out. The first is for anything to do with 'weight loss' and the second for the terms 'forex trading' or clear debt so you can see that the economic downturn and the efect of Christmas bills are the two things foremost on people's mind. Interestingly, however, the products that are making most advances in terms of ClickBank rankings are all those to do with gardening (search for gardening greenhouse orchids. These seem to be the products to promote at the moment and if you can build a niche site around these terms then using these ad feeds for your site would be a real boon. Remember that it will soon be even easier for you to have these ads on your site as you can use an RSS feed along with your AdSense ads. I'll provide you with all the tools you need!

Update your eBay Links
If you are an affiliate of eBay, then from April 1st 2008 eBay are now running their own affiliate program, instead of going through Commission Junction you now sign-up directly as an affiliate for eBay.
If you're not already a member of the eBay affiliate program then I have an article here on Generating a Passive Income from eBay which tells you how to join the program, as well as giving you information on using eBay to monetize your site with a few simple pages.
If you already are a member of the eBay affiliate program then you have until May 1st 2008 to change your links over to eBay. This is actually very simple. What you do is sign in to your eBay account and find what eBay call the 'campaign id'. It's a string of numbers. All you then have to do is to replace all instances of the publisher id (PID) you got from Commission Junction in your links and code with the eBay campaign id... and you're done.
If you do this now then eBay will increase any commissions you earn by 5% during the month of April.

Links, Links, Links...
Yes, I know, we're back to the link building issues again. But links are important they're the life-blood of your on-line presence. This is why link-building simply has to be a standard part of your everyday startegy. You need to keep writing and submitting articles, you need to keep-up with your link-building and exchange efforts and you need to maintain those blog posts.
Whatever your web presence, as long as you have some kind of presence on the internet then you will need traffic to your site. The only way to get traffic to your site is to get more in-bound links. How you do this is up to you. But if you ignore getting links then you are simply allowing a good portion of what should be your internet-based income to be frittered away. Look at it this way, if you can gain a hundred new links from quality sites you could double your website's traffic... And writing articles is a great way of doing this. Each article allows you at least two back-links and you should have no problem creating 6 articles in a day. This means 12 articles per day and 100 back-links in less than two weeks!
Of course, all this is a lot of effort (which really does need to be done) but getting and maintaining links will eat into the time you have for adding content to your site. if you want to out-source this effort and can afford it then you could use the services of http://www.mysitesubmit.com (which have very reasonable plans and whom I can personally vouch for) to get immediate traffic to his site and to improve back-links. I used these guys when I was starting out as they're cheap but efficient. Now, though I would recommends AmazingBillboards 'Full Service Marketing' as the package of choice for any webmaster who needs lots of guaranteed traffic.

My son, Zogo
This is Zogo, with his mother, Stefan, my Wife. Actually Zogo is my adoptive son, but that really doesn't matter right now. Stefan is Liberian and managed to escape the civil war in Liberia by escaping ot Sierra Leone, only to be caught-up in the civil war there (which officially ended in 2002 though sporadic violence continued). Zogo was concieved and born that year and Stefan and Zogo only just managed to escape with their lives (the scrapnel and machette scars my wife has bear testament to this). Like so many Liberians they made their way across West Africa. Through war-torn Sierra Leone and into Guinea where almost all contracted malaria.
From there they made their way to Senegal and The Gambia then across Senegal to the relative safety of Dakar. Unfortunately Malaria is a recurring disease and though it can be a terrible disorder in adults (my wife suffered her latest but last August) it can be lethal in young children. It's the period now for the malaria to recurr and Zogo is suffering a major bout. In young children it affects the major organs and the liver, kidneys and brains all become affected. Without prompt hospital treatment it is invariably fatal and even then survival isn't certain. Both my wife and son are awaiting a visa to come to the UK, so this couldn't have happened at a worse time for the fiamily. Healthcare in Senegal is either rudimentary or extremely expensive and as the days become weeks and Zogo's conditon isn't imporving this is eating into my resources.
As a result I am soon going to have to raise lots of money very quickly. As a result I am soon going to be running a firesale on my Celtnet eBooks Site and all its contents (that's over $6000 in value which will be on sale for only $19.99! Yes, the whole of the eBook site and it's complete contents. For a short time I will also be diverting all the other products on my site, such as the Recipes eBooks and my Maximize your Web Traffic which goes through SEO and also tells you how to make a minimum of $1000 per month on-line quickly and easily towards my son's hospital tratment.
