Both HubPages and Squidoo Lenses are an excellent way of both marketing and gaining additional income through publishing your information on the web. Both allow you to add various modules to aid in the monetization of your pages. This is excellent as you can use these to provide valuable information about your product or service whilst gaining yourself an additional source of income.
But many of those using Squidoo or HubPages are missing out on a huge potential income earning trick!
Both Squidoo Lenses and HubPages allow you to incorporate your own RSS feeds. Now, you can obvously add anything you want... But you're really missing a trick if you're not adding an RSS feed that can make you money!
On these pages I'm going to go through the entire process of how you can add a ClickBank-based RSS feed to monetize those sites. In case you're not aware of ClickBank, it's a marketplace for electronic (or instantly downloadable) products where you can earn commission for every item sold through your own Affiliate link. To get started you need to Sign up Free with ClickBank then you get what's called a 'nickname' (your unique affiliate ID). Once you have this, then just follow the steps below and you can add a nice extra income sources to your Squidoo Lenses and HubPages!
Once you have your Free ClickBank nickname simply navigate to the Celtnet ClickBank RSS Feed Generator page. You will see the site below:
Once on this page just scroll down until you see the section below: |
It's this section that automatically allows you to build your RSS feed for any range of ClickBank products. You can pick products either from the sectons of ClickBank or from any keywords you want. The system contais the whole of ClickBank, but the products have human-annotated descriptions and sales copy added by this site. Which makes them better for you to use on your websites. Remember, this feed is completely free for you to use and the feeds created are optimized as ads and are also free for you to use. So don't worry about grabbing these feeds. We've put in the effort to make certain they're the best things for your use! The page may look a little confusing at first, but there are only five things for you to do to get a ClickBank products RSS feed that will let you make money! We'll go through all those below: For squidoo or hub pages set the 'Desired number of Results' to 5 [item 5] (that's the maximum you can display so you don't need any more). |
The first and most important thing is to add your ClickBank nickname to the system. After all it's this that allows ClickBank to track any sales you make and which allows you to get your earnings check from ClickBank! Either type or copy and pase this into the part of the form indicated by [1] (I've used 'cbname' in the example shown). Once you've done this, your earnings are safe. Now you need to match the content of the feed to the content of your lens or hub page (after all if your ads are about the same things as your web page you're much more likely to get sales. There are two ways of doing this. You can either select a section or sub-section of products from the 'Choose Any Category' drop down (simple if you're writing about 'computers' or 'business') but yo're probably going to need to refine things further than that. The best thing to do is to use keywords to chose the products. In this case I've chosen 'monetize website' [2]. But you could choose anything. Once you've chosen your keywords you need to define how exact the algorithm will be with those keywords. Don't worry it's not complicated! You have three options [3]. The last one 'exact match' is the easiest to explain. If you chose 'monetize website' as your keywords and then selected 'exact match' only those entries containing the exact phrase 'monetize website' will be returned. So you have a very narrow search. If, however, you choose 'any word' as an option then any entry that contains either the word 'monetize' or the word 'website' will be returned (both don't have to be there together). This will probably give you lots of results! In contrast, if you chose 'all words' as an option then you will only get any entries that contain both the words 'monetize' and the word 'website' in the same entry (but they do not have to be together). For most uses, this is probably the best option to choose. You're now done. All you need to do is click on the 'Generate ClickBank RSS Code' and the code will be generated for you and you'll see the screen below: |
When the page refreshes two new sections will appear. The first of these is a link 'View the RSS Feed Here' that just lets you have a preview of the RSS feed you've just created. Below this is a box with a single URL in it. This is the URL of your personal RSS feed that you've just created. Copy this URL and keep it safe. This calls the database and all the other systems on the Celtnet site to create your own personal RSS feed each time its called. This is completely dynamic so each time the URL is called you get a new set of ads and each time ClickBank is updated, so are your ads! Once you've copied the URL from the box (highlighted) and saved it somewhere safe, you can now go to the next step: Adding your feed to Squidoo Lenses! You can start to use that URL to earn money! |
You're now ready to add the RSS feed you've just created to your existing and any new Squidoo lenses. Navigate to Squidoo and log in as normal. Start a new lens and when you've finished with the set-up process you will see the following screen:
You'll see a whole bunch of modules that simply allow you to build-up your Squidoo page. Amongs these there will be a module which says 'RSS: Add your own RSS feed'. Find this module and click on the 'Edit' button. (Shown by the arrow in the image on the left). You will then see the following screen: |
Again, don't be worried that the screen looks complicated! There are only a very few things that you need to do and we'll go through them in detail:
|
Congratulations! You have just added a set of RSS feed ads to your Squidoo Lens. You ads will now appear and they will be shown whenever someone views the lens you've created. Give yourself a big pat on the back and go and celebrate. |
Now that you've added a set of RSS feed ads to your Squidoo Lenses you can now go and do the same thing for your HubPages. Navigate to HubPages and log in as normal. Either create a new hub or go and edit an existing hub. You will see a page like:
Somewhere near the top of the page there's an 'Add More Stuff' section. In here there's an 'RSS' option (shown with an arrow in the image on the left). Simply click on that button and you will get something like the screen below: |
Somewhere amongst the list of modules you have at the bottom of the page there'll be a module with the RSS image on it and the word 'RSS'. It's probably near the bottom and you can use the 'up arrow' to move it up nearer your text (it's more effective if it's the module just below your text). Then click on the 'Edit' button (shown with an arrow) to add your RSS feed. You will see a floating popup appear, as below: |
Again, it's a simple process to add your RSS feed. Just follow the steps below
|
If all is working as it should you will now see your 4 RSS-based ads appearing. If everything looks OK to you just click on the module's 'Save' button (shown by the arrow) and the code to display your RSS feed ads will be saved into HubPages. |
You will now see that the RSS module you added at the beginning is populated with your RSS ads. Congratulations, your're almost done! |
All you need to do now is finish editing your hub, add other modules as necessary and when you're done either click on the 'done editing' or 'Publish' button and your hub will be made available to the world at large and will include your RSS feed and your ads. |
I hope that you enjoyed this short course and that you will find it useful (and profitable). All my hubs and Squidoo Lenses now have these ads on them and I use them on various other systems (and many of my web pages as well). The next course in this series will show you how to add RSS ads to normal web pages (and why this is an excellent thing to do!).

QUESTION: I am considering starting an ebusiness using affiliate programs, but there is so much hype out there I can't figure out which programs would work best for me. Everybody claims their program is best. I'd really appreciate some guidance here.
