'Thai Food' by David Thompson can be counted as the companion to Thai cuisine. The book begins with a brief history of Thailand, including all it's culinary influences. Then follows culinary terms and a description of some of the more important Thai ingredients and basic preparation methods.

You then have a comprehensive guide to various Thai dishes, including relishes, soups, curries, salads, side dishes, desserts and snacks. All the recipes are presented with descriptions, images and full instructions of how to assemble the dish.
If you like Thai food, or are interested in Asian cookery then this book is most certainly for you. There are over 300 recipes presented in this book, which corresponds to the most comprehensive collection and examination of Thai Food printed in the English Language. The dishes are beautifully presented and all those I have tried simply worked first time, no messing. The photographs are gorgeous and it makes choosing the right recipe to try all the more challenging.
Most importantly, perhaps, David Thompson obviously has a passion for Thai Food and this passion emerges through his words. The dishes come alive as he describes them and you find yourself salivating at the words alone.
I must admit that this book hardly ever lives on my shelves and I refer to it almost constantly. Indeed, I can hardly find fault with the book at all and I highly recommend it to everyone. This really should be a part of your culinary library. Whether you like Thai food, are passionate about cooking or just curious about Oriental cookery, then this is the book for you!
