The Image

by Dyfed Lloyd Evans
Ephemera imperfectly caught — encapsulated history
That which was; but never more can be
Trapped in silver-halide memory

History

by Dyfed Lloyd Evans
History but momentary word, or deed
That fragmentary seed
Where future’s fate’s decreed
The lessons that we learn but do not heed.

Though separated by almost three years in their wirting these poems both harken to the same inception point. During 19992 my girlfriend of the time was an installation artist; working both in textiles and in printed photographs. The firs poem was an attempt at putting the spirit of one of her images into words; actually into an echo of the ancient triads so beloved of the ancinet Cymric peoples. The second verse extends the first by taking the snapshot of the past represented by the first verse and extending that to its implication for our understanding of the future.
