African Born

by Dyfed Lloyd Evans
We are the sum of all our pasts
Buried deep in who we are and what we do.
The choices the our forebears made
Concealed in our inheritance
The thoughts we have;
The languages we speak.
Their voice is ours — their genes,
which shape the fabric of the self.
Maternal line from maternal Eve:
extending mitochondrially
To some far forgotten plain of Africa
Where we were truly born.
A thinking ape, the naked chimpanzee
Raised tall against the burning sun
Before the Toba superblast
That shrank out breed
To scarce ten-thousand strong
Still multiplied unto a scattering
Their outward urge
That drives us still to seek
New lands, new challenges
Each wrought their change on us
And made us all forget
That we
Are simply African.

This poem originates in scientific knowlege; where all of African origin are the 'wild type' of the human race and all the rest of us are merely mutants; variants on the original ancestral theme. This, and historical knowlege on the events that led to the original diaspora from Africa are the core theme of the poem. This and the knowlege that if the human race survives the next thousand years our descendants will all be some shade of brown.

But it goes deeper than than. The only way to combat racism is for all the world's children to be one form or other of brown. For me the solution is to marry an African woman. One whom I have fallen totally and completely in love with. But for this dream to be realized we need your hepl. You can read more about the problems and hrdles involved in the Help Stefan campaign. But if you would like to aid an african Refugee and her son make a completely new life forthemselves after six years of strife and hardship. Please make a donaton below:
